Issues since upgrading to Leopard

While many of the features on the latest version of OS X known as Leopard are great and have enhanced my user-experience (Spaces and Time Machine to name just two...) I have really noticed a couple of performance issues on my MacBook Pro.

1. It now takes my machine a lot longer to boot up when switching it on. To counter this, I have taken to letting it sleep when I am not using it (like overnight for example) however this is not ideal.

2. Since the upgrade I have also noticed a very marked increased in the number of times both browsers I have installed are crashing. I currently have Firefox v 2.0.0.12 and Safari 3.0.4 and the dreaded spinning beachball of death has been appearing much more frequently over the last couple of months.

If anybody out there has any suggestions on how to improve this situation, or just wants to bitch about the same problems, let me know.....

Drop Copy

A friend mentioned this great, and simple, application to me recently. DropCopy allows you to quickly and easily send files to multiple destinations across your LAN by just dragging and dropping files. When active, drop box puts a little 'black hole'-type icon on your desk with the names of potential recipients that you can send the files to.

DropCopy is free for personal use (for up to three machines on a network) or $25 for use on larger networks.

As a bonus, it also makes a cool sound when you send or receive a file.....

Drop copy was deveoped by 10base-t Interactive (who also have a couple of other Mac apps that you may want to take a look at.

You can download DropCopy v1.3.3 by clicking here

There is also now a Beta of version 1.4.3 for Leopard available here

Mac Saber 1.1

Looking through my site stats, an earlier post about MacSaber, the app that uses the MacBook's motion sensors to generate a range of very realistic Light Saber sounds has proved to be one the most popular.

The app was updated a while back (quite a while back now) and you can read about it on the iSnoop site or download the updated version here

As a reminder what is looks like when you turn your very expensive Mac laptop into a light sabre.....
